Ella’s Americana Folk Art Cafe – Seminole Heights

Fried Green Tomatoes –
The batter was very thick and crunchy. They came with a sauce. I forget what it was. These were okay, but a little bland to me. My date loved them though. We also had an order of the Rasta-Far fries. I won’t put a picture up though, because I reviewed that appetizer on a previous post.

Pork Chop – 16oz Porterhouse Chop, pan seared, & topped with Bacon Apple Jam. Served with Gorgonzola Mashed Potatoes and sautéed Asparagus.

This was ABSOLUTELY SCRUMPTIOUS! The pork chop was crisp on the outside, but moist on the inside. The bacon pieces in the jam, mixed with the natural juices from the pork chop, made for one helluva topping. The mashed potatoes on the side paired well with the meat. It was like the perfect bite. I just put it all on one fork and dug in. And well, you can never go wrong with asparagus.

Eggs and Bacon – Garlic Puree, Red Onion, Tomato, Chopped House Bacon, Asiago, Mozzarella, and 4 Eggs baked medium. Finished with Glory Road Micro Greens & Balsamic Reduction

My date ordered the pizza. This isn’t something I’d have ordered, so I was glad she got it so I could try. I found it a bit salty, but if you go for these flavors together, it worked. Both my date and I agreed that having a runny egg wasn’t the best combination. Then again, maybe that’s because we prefer our eggs cooked. Overall though, she didn’t seem too disappointed with it’s taste. I wouldn’t recommend this pizza though. They have others that taste so good!

Chocolate Bacon Duo: Bacon dipped in dark chocolate and sprinkled with peanuts. Pancetta dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with almonds.

As I’ve said in the past, I’m not much of a dessert eater, but my carnivorous date just had to try this, so I went along for the ride. I preferred the bacon to the pancetta, however, that’s not a diss to the pancetta. If you like that kind of thing, you’ll be fine. I’ve had bacon dipped chocolate before and I wasn’t impressed, however Ella’s gets it right. Ultimately though, the leftovers from this went into my dates box. I LIKE FOOD!

I said it once and I’ll say it again: I LOVE THIS PLACE AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! This restaurant will pop up on this blog until I’ve tried everything that I’m interested in. It’s just so good! And this time I visited Ella’s on a date, so I was able to try even more items.

All of this food, dessert, plus the cocktail she had and the glass of wine I had only came to about $80 after the tip. Not bad! But definitely not worth a girl you don’t like.

Of Note:

  • Call before you head to the restaurant and get on “the list” which should significantly reduce your waiting time. They only do a guaranteed reservation for parties of 8 or more.
  • You can park at the A.A. Casey Co building across the street after 5 p.m. You can park at the Pawn Shop next door after 7 p.m.
  • The best seats are the booths by the windows. It’s cozy for a date and away from the loud noise that accumulates at the heart of the restaurant, near the stage.
