Shrimp & Co. – Ybor City

I had the Chicken Blues – Bacon rolled chicken breast stuffed with shrimp, topped with a crab white wine sauce, corn cobbettes and mixed vegetables (the veggies arrived later.)

The food was good food, but nothing I’d order again. It was only good because I like chicken, bacon and shrimp, not because the combination, along with the sauce, added anything extra to the mix. Honestly, it just tasted like meat with cheese on top. Looking back though, I should have been aware of this. It reads like a meat lovers special, instead of a culinary one. I also wasn’t impressed with the price. For 18.99, I expected more.

With that being said, I’ll still recommend this restaurant, but ONLY if you like shrimp. Pretty much everything on the menu has it, in some form, so you’re bound to find something you like. I think it pertinent to mention that almost everything on the menu is also fried. This is not the healthy shrimp the experts are ranting and raving about. If you’re hell bent on eating there and want something less gut busting, they do offer some grilled fish combinations.

I doubt I’ll visit again. I’m not a huge seafood eater and there are still other places I want to try. Hopefully you guys will have a better experience though.

Expect to spend $15-30 for one person, depending on what you order.

  • Of note:
  • This restaurant is one of the few that has a parking lot in Ybor. It’s free after 5pm and on weekends. Not bad.
  • The restaurant is small, so if you have a large party, call ahead to make sure they can accommodate you.
  • They have a bald, male server. If he appears indifferent, it’s just because he’s probably the only server working the floor. I watched him bust his ass all night, so even though he forgot to bring my veggies twice, I still tipped him 20%. If you get a chance, get him to talking. He’s really nice!
  • Speaking of that server, you’ll notice he has a thin sheen of sweat on his head. It’s not his fault. This restaurant is warm. I’m guessing that they’re frying their butts off in the kitchen! Skip the wine and stick to cold water to stay cool.

  1. I love shrimp & co. But I also love seafood. They have an awesome appetizer called Mangles Clams, its comes in a spicy, buttery, herb filled sauce, AMAZING! I also like there Louisiana Steampot, filled with crawfish, sausage, potatoes, and corn. I have them to make it super spicy! Sorry your chicken wasn’t that great!

    • See, that’s why I still recommended it for shrimp lovers Jasmine. I figured it would work for seafood lovers. Because I don’t eat it often, when I do, I want it to be dynamite!

I actually wanted to try the steampot, but I was on a date, so you know how it is. I didn’t want to be slinging juice and embarrassing myself in front of the girl. As such, I settled and ended up disappointed. Now though, I figure I’ll just keep it moving. I’ll maybe try a steampot elsewhere.

Then again, you might be able to persuade me to try again with you guys. Maybe this place can get me back in their good graces?
